"Young British violinist Chloë Hanslip, who is making quite a name for herself, will perform Oct. 15. People pay good money to hear the talented Hanslip perform in other cities, but the Harriman-Jewell Series is presenting her free in one of its Discovery Concerts."
Patrick Neas, The Kansas City Star

Now 23, Hanslip is already an established international artist of distinction. “[Hanslip] is likely to become the greatest violinist of her generation,” wrote Limelight’s Christopher Latham. Her recent recording of John Adams’ Violin Concerto with the Royal Philharmonic Orchestra entered the U.K. Classical Charts at number 2. Philip Clark, writing in Gramophone Magazine, concluded that “playing like this should secure Chloë Hanslip’s reputation for life.”

When she was ten, Hanslip appeared as the "prodigy violinist" in Ralph Fiennes’ film adaptation of Pushkin's Evgeny Onegin, and made a significant contribution to Maxim Vengerov’s master class as part of the documentary Playing by Heart. (In 1993, the Harriman-Jewell Series presented Vengerov in his American recital debut.) She was the first instrumentalist invited by Bryn Terfel to play in the Opera Night at his Faenol Festival and has performed for the Duke of Edinburgh. The young violinist was given the honor to play the European premiere of Sir John Tavener’s "Ikon of Eros" and the world premiere of the first extract of Andrew Lloyd-Webber's "Phantasia on Phantom of the Opera."

Hanslip's piano collaborator, Ashley Wass, was described in Gramophone Magazine as a "thoroughbred who possesses the enviable gift to turn almost anything he plays into pure gold." Wass, 33, is the only British pianist to have won First Prize at the London International Piano Competition (1997). The Harriman-Jewell Series presented Ashley Wass and American violinist Sarah Chang on March 30, 2007, as part of their tour of the United States and Europe.

The intent behind the Harriman-Jewell Series Discovery Concerts is to introduce excellence and artistry to new audiences by eliminating the barrier of cost. The free events begin at 7 p.m. (earlier than other evening performances) to better accommodate the schedules of families with children.
